Hair loss and alopecia treatment
There is no single treatment that works for every kind of hair loss. We choose the method based on the cause we identify during the examination and on what you expect from treatment. Here you will find an overview of the options we use or recommend at the Hair Expert Hair Clinic.
Book an examinationCause first, then treatment
The same method can help one person and have no effect on another. The cause is what matters: hereditary thinning, shedding after childbirth or illness, alopecia areata, scalp inflammation and scarring conditions are each treated differently. That is why we recommend treatment only after an examination and digital trichoscopy.
Methods are often combined — for example, a medication that supports hair growth with scalp treatment or a supplementary procedure. We always explain the plan and agree on it so that it is realistic for you.
PRP therapy and scalp mesotherapy
The two procedures we offer most often at the Hair Clinic. They work best combined with treatment of the cause we identify during the examination.
From a small amount of your blood we prepare plasma rich in platelets and growth factors and deliver it into the scalp with tiny injections. The aim is to support the hair follicles — most often in hereditary hair thinning in men and women.
- From your own blood, with no foreign substances
- No time off work — back to your usual routine the same day
- We assess the effect objectively at a follow-up trichoscopy
Who it is not suitable for: blood clotting disorders, use of blood thinners, scalp infection, cancer and pregnancy
With tiny injections we deliver a blend of active ingredients into the scalp, right to the hair roots. It helps support hair during thinning and increased shedding, for example in periods of stress or seasonal shedding.
What the mesotherapy cocktail contains
- hyaluronic acid
- B vitamins including biotin, and panthenol
- amino acids and peptides
- minerals and trace elements (e.g. zinc, copper, selenium)
The doctor will recommend the specific product and number of sessions based on your trichoscopy results.
- Active ingredients exactly where the hair needs them
- A short procedure with no recovery time
- Can be combined with PRP therapy and with treatment
Who it is not suitable for: scalp infection or inflammation, allergy to any of the ingredients, and during pregnancy and breastfeeding
We recommend the procedures after an examination and digital trichoscopy. Results vary from patient to patient — we will discuss what to expect beforehand.
Treatment by diagnosis
Treatment of scalp inflammation and scalp conditions
Itching, flaking and inflammation of the scalp, for example in seborrhoeic dermatitis or psoriasis, harm the hair and can make shedding worse. We treat them with shampoos and topical products with anti-inflammatory or antifungal effects, and in more severe cases systemically as well.
- When it is used
- itching, dandruff, redness or scales in the hair
Replacing what is missing
Iron or vitamin D deficiency and thyroid disorders are common and very treatable causes of hair loss. A blood test reveals them, and you can have it done at the Unilabs laboratory right next to the clinic. We only replace what is actually missing.
- When it is used
- increased shedding all over the scalp, fatigue, after childbirth, when dieting
Topical medications
Solutions or foams applied to the scalp that extend the growth phase of the hair. In hereditary hair thinning in men and women, they are among the best-proven treatment options. The effect is assessed after several months and lasts only as long as they are used.
- When it is used
- androgenetic alopecia — thinning on the crown, receding temples, a widening parting
Prescription medications
In some forms of hereditary hair loss, treatment can be supplemented with oral medications. The choice depends on sex, age, family planning and other conditions. We prescribe them only after an examination and after explaining possible side effects.
- When it is used
- androgenetic alopecia where topical treatment alone is not enough
Treatment of alopecia areata
For well-defined patches, anti-inflammatory treatments are used in the form of creams, solutions or injections directly into the patch. For extensive and severe forms, modern targeted therapy given at specialised centres may be considered. MUDr. Lucie Karkošková is herself involved in this treatment at the Military University Hospital Prague and will assess whether it is suitable for you.
- When it is used
- well-defined hairless patches on the scalp, in the beard or eyebrows
When to expect results
Hair grows about a centimetre a month, and new hair needs time before it becomes visible. That is why we assess the effect of treatment after 3 to 6 months at the earliest, and objectively — by comparing images from digital trichoscopy. Shedding after childbirth or illness usually settles on its own within a few months. In hereditary thinning, the goal is to slow down or stop the shedding, and treatment tends to be long-term.

What to watch out for
Shampoos, serums and “anti-hair-loss” supplements cannot replace treatment of the actual cause. If your hair has been falling out for more than a few weeks, is thinning or a bald patch has appeared, it is worth finding out why first. You will save time and money on products that may not work in your case.
FAQ
Can hair loss be cured?
It depends on the cause. Shedding after childbirth, illness or due to iron deficiency usually settles once the cause is removed. Alopecia areata can heal, but sometimes returns. Hereditary thinning is a long-term condition — treatment can slow it down or stop it and, in some patients, improve hair density. In scarring alopecias, the goal is to stop the disease from progressing, because hair follicles that have been lost do not regenerate.
Which method should I choose?
We decide together after the examination and trichoscopy. Without knowing the cause, no method can be responsibly recommended — the same procedure may help one person and do nothing for another.
Do vitamins and hair supplements help?
Only if you are actually lacking something, and a blood test will show that. Without a confirmed deficiency, supplements usually do not stop hair loss, and some substances can even be harmful in high doses.
Will I have to use the treatment permanently?
In hereditary thinning, usually yes, because medications only work for as long as they are used. Hair loss with a temporary cause, for example after childbirth, after illness or due to iron deficiency, is treated only until the cause resolves.
Can methods be combined?
Yes, and it often makes sense. Typically, a medication that supports hair growth is combined with scalp treatment or with a supplementary procedure such as PRP therapy. We choose the combination based on the diagnosis.
Is treatment covered by health insurance?
Examinations and procedures at the Hair Expert Hair Clinic are not covered by public health insurance. You can find current prices in the price list.
