Acne Treatment in Prague 6 — Dermatologist-Led Care for Teens and Adults

We do not treat acne with one cream for everyone. Depending on the type of lesions, your age and what you have already tried, we choose topical or systemic treatment and adjust it at follow-up visits according to how it is working. We also treat the scarring acne leaves behind.

Acne is the most common skin diagnosis there is, and it is far from being only a teenage problem. In adults it has different triggers and a different course — it appears more on the chin and along the jawline, responds poorly to over-the-counter products, and is often linked to hormonal fluctuation or prolonged stress.

Treatment follows the severity. Milder forms respond to topical retinoids or benzoyl peroxide. Moderate cases add systemic treatment. For severe and scarring forms, isotretinoin becomes an option, with regular monitoring. In women we also consider the effect of hormonal contraception, which improves acne in some cases and worsens it in others.

Results take time. The first improvement usually comes after six to eight weeks, the full effect after three to six months. In the first weeks the skin may temporarily look worse — with retinoids this is an expected reaction, not a treatment failure. That is exactly why we schedule a follow-up rather than leaving you with a prescription and no further contact.

Acne is treated at our clinic by MUDr. Gabriela Charouzová, a board-certified dermatovenerologist.

How the appointment works

  1. 1

A conversation about the course — when the acne started, what you have already tried, which medication and contraception you take, and whether the lesions change with your cycle.

  2. 2

Examination of the skin, assessment of the type and severity of lesions and of the state of healed areas.

  3. 3

A treatment plan tailored to you, with additional tests recommended where appropriate.

  4. 4

We explain how to use the products and what to expect in the first few weeks.

  5. 5

A follow-up in six to eight weeks, where we fine-tune the treatment according to the result.

FAQ

What does an acne consultation cost, and is it covered by insurance?

An initial consultation costs CZK 1,500 for self-payers and a follow-up CZK 800. For patients of our contracted insurers — VZP, VoZP, OZP, Škoda and ZP MV ČR — acne treatment is covered by public health insurance. Aesthetic procedures for acne scarring are not covered; their prices are listed in our price list.

How long before the treatment works?

The first visible improvement usually comes after six to eight weeks, the full effect after three to six months. In the first weeks the skin may temporarily get worse — with retinoids this is an expected reaction, not a failure. That is why we schedule a follow-up, where we adjust the treatment according to the result.

Do you prescribe isotretinoin?

Yes, for more severe acne and where other treatment has not worked. Isotretinoin requires regular blood test monitoring, and in women of childbearing age reliable contraception, because it harms the foetus. The entire course of treatment is managed and monitored here at the clinic.

Do you treat acne scarring?

Yes. Depending on the type of scar we use fractional laser, microneedling or chemical peeling, and topical preparations for post-inflammatory discolouration. The condition is that the acne itself is under control first — we do not treat scars while new lesions are still appearing.

Do you treat acne in teenagers?

Yes. Early treatment matters most in adolescence, because it is what prevents permanent scarring. A patient under 18 comes with a parent or legal guardian, who also consents to the treatment.
