STI Testing in Prague 6 — Discreet Screening for Sexually Transmitted Infections
We test for sexually transmitted infections discreetly and without moralising. A conversation at the start determines which tests actually make sense in your situation, samples are taken the same visit, and results are always explained to you in person or by phone. You do not need a referral.
Most sexually transmitted infections cause no symptoms at all. That is precisely why they spread — a person who feels perfectly well has no reason to suspect anything, and the infection is passed on. Testing therefore follows risk, not complaints. If there was an unprotected encounter with a new partner, a condom failure, or simply the wish to know where you stand, that is reason enough to come.
Timing matters as much as the test itself. Every infection has a diagnostic window — the period during which it is present in the body but not yet detectable. Chlamydia and gonorrhoea show up after roughly one to two weeks, syphilis and HIV after approximately four to six weeks, with definitive exclusion after twelve weeks. A test done too early returns a negative result that means nothing, which is why we work out the right timing with you at the start. If you have symptoms, do not wait — come straight away.
Depending on the situation we take blood for syphilis, HIV and hepatitis, urine for chlamydia and gonorrhoea, and where appropriate a swab from the site of possible transmission. The sampling is quick and painless.
Results are never sent to you in writing alone. We explain them in person or by phone, and if anything is positive we start treatment at the same time and talk through how to inform your partners — a conversation most people find the hardest part, and one we can help you prepare for.

Do I need to have symptoms to get tested?
No. Most sexually transmitted infections cause no symptoms, so testing follows risk rather than complaints. You can book after unprotected sex with a new partner, at the start of a relationship, after a condom failure, or simply because you want to know where you stand.

What does testing cost and is it covered by insurance?
Testing for sexually transmitted infections is currently self-pay at our clinic. An initial venereology consultation costs CZK 2,000 and a follow-up CZK 1,500. No health insurer currently reimburses these examinations at our clinic, including where symptoms are present. We always tell you the price in advance, and you can pay by card or in cash.
How is confidentiality ensured?
The examination is subject to the same medical confidentiality as anything else in the surgery, and it is recorded in your documentation in the standard way, with no special regime. Results are given in person or by phone, never in writing alone. If you would like anything handled differently, say so at the start of the visit.
