Hair Clinic — dermatological hair loss treatment in Prague 6
Hair loss has dozens of possible causes, and the same-looking problem may need completely different treatment in two people. That is why at the Hair Expert Hair Clinic we start with diagnosis: digital trichoscopy and an examination by a dermatologist. Only once we know what is going on do we agree on treatment.

How we can help
My hair is falling out or thinning
Increased shedding, thinner hair on the crown, a receding hairline, a thinner ponytail. The most common reason for a visit — but there are several causes, and each is treated differently.
I have a bald patch
A well-defined hairless patch on the scalp, in the beard or eyebrows. It is often alopecia areata, which is best addressed early.
My scalp itches or I have dandruff
Itching, flaking, redness or a burning scalp. Common causes include seborrhoeic dermatitis, psoriasis or irritation.
My child is losing hair
Hair loss in children has different causes than in adults. It is best not to postpone the examination.
Why we start with diagnosis
Hair loss is not a disease in itself but a symptom. It can be caused by genetic predisposition, hormonal changes, a past illness, stress, iron deficiency, thyroid disorders, autoimmune disease or scalp inflammation — and often by several factors at once. Yet they can look very similar.
Treatment differs fundamentally depending on the cause. What helps with hereditary thinning may have no effect on hair loss after childbirth or illness, which usually resolves on its own. So you don't leave with general advice, but with an answer to what is happening in your particular case.

How the examination works
- 1A conversation about your symptoms: when the hair loss started and how it has developed, past illnesses, medications and supplements, family history.
- 2Examination of the hair and scalp, and if needed the eyebrows, eyelashes and nails.
- 3Digital trichoscopy — magnified images of the hair and scalp show hair density and thickness, the state of the follicular openings and signs of inflammation. We store the images for later comparison.
- 4Explanation of the findings and the likely cause. If blood tests are needed, the Unilabs laboratory is right next door, so you can usually have blood taken the same day.
- 5A treatment plan and a follow-up appointment, at which we compare the images and see the actual progress.
Treatment based on the cause
Depending on the findings, treatment may include adjusting hair and scalp care, replenishing deficiencies, treating scalp inflammation, prescription medication and complementary methods such as PRP (platelet-rich plasma) or scalp mesotherapy. We recommend each method only where it makes sense for your diagnosis, and we explain what you can and cannot expect from it.
In more severe forms of alopecia areata, we assess whether referral to a biologic treatment centre is appropriate. MUDr. Karkošková is herself involved in this treatment at the Military University Hospital Prague.

FAQ
Is the examination and treatment covered by health insurance?
No. Hair Expert Hair Clinic services are paid directly by the patient and are not covered by any health insurance company. The initial examination with digital trichoscopy costs CZK 2,500, follow-up trichoscopy CZK 1,500. Prices of other procedures are in the price list.
Do I need a referral from a GP?
No, you can book directly. If you have blood test results or reports from other doctors from the past few months, please bring them with you.
How should I prepare for the examination?
Wash your hair the day before the examination, not on the day of the visit, and don't use styling products, hairspray or dry shampoo. If possible, don't dye your hair shortly before the examination. Make a list of the medications and supplements you take.
Is trichoscopy painful?
No. A trichoscope is an optical device that only magnifies and photographs the hair and scalp. The examination is non-invasive and you can return to your normal day right after.
How long before treatment results show?
Hair grows slowly, about a centimetre a month, so treatment results are assessed after several months at the earliest. We document the condition with images and compare them at follow-ups — so you see actual progress, not just an impression.
Do you treat children?
Yes. MUDr. Lucie Karkošková has long focused on hair loss in children. For children, we recommend not postponing the examination.
